The Thymus
The thymus gland is found in the upper thorax region of the upper chest and is a small organ that weighs less than 10grams at birth and develops to a weight of around 450grams at puberty. At puberty the functions of the gland begin to “turn off” and shrink due to the influences of many factors including adrenal and sex hormones. The gland is gradually replaced by fat and connective tissue.

The healthy structure of a fully functioning thymus gland typically reduces in size by age 20, and this reduction or atrophy continues through out a persons life. Shrinkage of the thymus gland is one of the cardinal bio-markers of aging as noted by Immunologist Keith Kelly. (1).

Over the years science has discovered the thymus gland acted as the key regulator of immunity. As part of its function the thymus gland receives immature white blood cells called lymphocytes.

Lymphocytes are a category of white cells, slightly larger than red cells and found in the blood, lymphatic organs and many other structures in the body. T cells belong to the white blood cell category.  The spleen, lymph nodes, and tonsils are examples of lymphatic organs. Lymphocytes have large, round nuclei that take up almost all of the space inside the cell.

Like all blood cells, T cells are made in the bone marrow. The T is an abbreviation for the word "thymus." After T cells are made, they go to the thymus to mature.

The thymus acts as a cell incubator. When matured, the cells exit the thymus gland. The cells are transformed into one of the specific types of T-lymphocytes, such as T4 helper cells or T8 suppresser or cytotoxic T cells.

T4 helper cells govern cellular immunity which means they help cells recognise and destroy invading bacteria, virus, abnormal cell growth such as cancer and foreign tissue. The job of the T8 suppresser cells are to control the immune system.

In 1974, pioneer researcher Allan Goldstein, MD, in his research paper thymosin and the Immunopathology of aging viewed the thymus gland as an endocrine gland, similar to other endocrine glands, such as the pituitary or thyroid.

"Our studies indicate that the thymus controls the maturation of T cells by an endocrine mechanism, and that the hypothesis that the [ thymus gland] must come into contact with T-cell precursors is no longer tenable. We propose that the [ thymus gland] secretes thymosin, and perhaps other hormones, which can act at sites distant from the thymus to influence the ontogenesis [and] function... of lymphoid cells involved in cell mediated immunity." (2)

Discoveries and clinical tests showed there are at least 4 different peptide hormones naturally secreted by the thymus gland. These include Thymosins, a group of 40 or so related peptides found in thymus extracts called "Thymic Fraction”(5); Thymopoietin; Thymulin; also called "Facteur Thymique Serique"; and Thymus Humoral Factor (3).

The discovery expanded the scope of the thymus gland by collectively recognising that these peptide hormones produced a broad range of actions beyond the maturation and differentiation of T cells.

Thymus Reactivation.

Thymus energy reactivation can increase key immune signals, called "lymphokines", including interleukin 2 (IL2), interferon, colony stimulating factor, and others (4,6), to cause greater numbers of T cells to develop more IL2 receptors more quickly, which is critically necessary to allow rapid white blood cell proliferation and activation to fight invading germs (4).

Thymus energy reactivation can prevent “tissue wasting” that occurs with   thymus gland removal or severe thymus gland atrophy, and promote healthy weight gain in disease states- such as AIDS- where catabolic body wasting is typical (3).

Thymus energy reactivation can reduce autoimmune reactions, clinically and experimentally, such as those that occur in rheumatoid arthritis (5).

Thymus energy reactivation can prevent bone marrow injury and subsequent reduction in white and red blood cell production, frequently produced by X-ray or chemotherapy cancer treatment (5).

Thymus energy reactivation can increase disease-fighting antibodies when they're needed, yet reduce the levels of the "allergic antibody" IgE, in sufferers of allergic rhinitis, asthma, and atopic dermatitis (5).

These are just some of the many ways thymus energy reactivation have shown to enhance, restore, and balance immunity!

By restoring immune function the body is able to make DNA that promotes normal cell division, normal insulin sensitivity, normal thyroid levels and normal population of certain molecules in the brain that change with age. All these things can be restored by an improvement in the immune system. (1.)

Thymus- aging and growth hormone

As the thymus gland shrinks with age, as does the blood levels and activity of various thymus gland hormones decline with age. Goldstein observed a significant drop in blood thymosin levels in normal individuals between the ages of 20 and 40 (2). Thymulin, a zinc-activated thymus gland hormone, shows evidence of a significant drop in activity in aging, healthy adults, and in hypothyroidism (3).

Since thymus gland hormones are secreted by the very thymus gland cells that "shrivel up" and waste away during aging, stress, disease, radiation and malnutrition etc, the flow on effect of this is the reduction in thymus gland hormone activity.

Part of the restorative, rejuvenate, anabolic, general health-enhancing effects of thymus energy reactivation relates to the interactions between the pituitary and thymus gland, growth hormones (GH) and thymus gland hormones.

Thymus energy reactivation assists to recreate and increase the number, activity, and healthy structure of T cells. T cells secrete GH which releases the GH hormone (7,8). Furthermore, they can stimulate the pituitary to release GH (3). Experiments done on the removal of thymus gland notes the degeneration of the pituitary cells that produce GH (3).

Thymus- immune system

An important effect of the thymus gland is its immune balancing and normalizing action. The "ideal", healthy T4: T8 ratio is 1.74.  T4: T8 ratios below normal rate (under 1.02); normal ratios range (between 1.02 and 2.46); while above normal ratios can range from 2.47 up to 3.33. (9).

Thymus- little is known

In spite of modern medicine findings evidence accumulated over the last 20 years tells us that the thymus has no function in adult life given its key role in the structure of  the immune system. It is over whelming and hard to believe that there is not some unconscious factor working to deny its recognition as an important body organ (as they all are) other than that of a useless body part.

Who can benefit from practicing Thymus Energy Reactivation?

1. Both children and adults, with infections, autoimmune, allergic and cancerous conditions, both acute and chronic, hepatitis, recurrent respiratory infections, early-stage AIDS, candidiasis, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma and skin conditions..

2. Useful as a key endocrine-normalizing, anti-aging therapy, especially for those over 20!  The size and hormone activity function of the thymus shrinks significantly by the age of 20, after reaching full functional maturity in the first 10-12 years of life. Further significant decline usually occurs by the age of 40, and it's all downhill from there- until death, at whatever age, so they say!

3. Useful in creating hormone blood ratio balance essential to the immune system. GH and thymic hormones are mutually supporting and synergistic.

4. Useful for those who are relatively healthy, however suffer frequent colds, flu, and other minor infections.

5. Useful in increasing energy and vitality, and to "lift the spirits." In his book Life Energy (10), John Diamond, M.D. provides evidence that the thymus gland controls the acupuncture energy meridians of the human body, and is the glandular key to vitality, love, courage and the will to live/ will to be well.

6. Is useful for minor skin allergic conditions, infections and simply to "bring youthfulness" to normal skin.

Ascension Living specifically recommends thymus energy practice as an affordable alternative method to reactivating and recreating thymus gland structure and function.

Thymus Energy Reactivation - Conclusions

To conclude on a personal note;  I have worked with, consulted and instructed on the thymus energy reactivation process.

Aside from the obvious immune benefits (no colds or flu, almost perfect allergy control), I have noticed a unique effect from its use that nothing else can affordably replace.

I notice a distinct "vitalizing"  effect immediately.

I have always refrained from using traditional oral or topical medicines and remedies preferring to work with specific energy precriptions that have worked for me and others.

Thymus energy reactivation is one of Ascension Livings core pro-health energy prescriptions.

The prescription takes very little effort and time.

The prescription can extend into other areas of health and wellbeing.
